Marriage and The Bedroom (Or where ever)

Posted by on September 4, 2008

Dirt and I found something interesting several years ago while preparing a class for parents on parenting for purity. We delved into marriage, scripturally, what it is in God’s eyes. When we were looking to scripture to see the beauty in the marriage relationship that is in no other relationship outside of the one we have with God as individuals and as His Church, we found this:

God’s view of sex – what God created it for.

Mystery, everyone loves a mystery, intrigue and wonder. And in Proverbs 30:18-19 God tells us that we will find one in the marriage relationship. Oh, we can attempt to dissect it analyse it but we can never really unravel the mystery.

There are three things which are too wonderful for me,
Yes, four which I do not understand:
The way of an eagle in the air,
The way of a serpent on a rock,
The way of a ship in the midst of the sea,
And the way of a man with a virgin.

Procreation Genesis1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Genesis 9:1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. This one seems to have falling into disregard lately so we made sure to include one that would usually have gotten a “duh”. In this he calls us to participate with Him.

Oneness Genesis 2:24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. Not the same as knowledge.

Knowledge Genesis 4:1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the LORD.” Not the same as oneness.

Comfort Genesis 24:67 Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death. I think that this is by far my favorite, I obviously need a lot of comforting.

Pleasure Song of Songs 1:2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth – for your love is more delightful than wine. A whole book devoted to the richness of marital relations.

Satisfaction of Desire Proverbs 5:19 – A loving doe, a graceful deer – may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love. In the New Testament Paul says if you can’t handle your desires, get married.

Seven reasons to not accumulate baggage and give Satan footholds into your life that distract and disrupt from the abundance that God has for you. Our message to parents was to first discover all of the reasons for themselves.

And then to understand how beautiful a present to give to their children, an entrance into their future marriage relationship as unencumbered as possible in a fallen world. Can we really protect them too much – is the idea of too much protection scriptural?
